Are there disk-shaped spacecraft afar? Did you read Ivan Efremov's "Hour of the Taurus"?
:iconmgwilliams:
I didn't read the book (yet) Is it good?

 There is a disk shaped spacecraft "crashed" in the distance.
After watching some documentaries about the Mars Explorer I had this idea to create a scene where a robot explorer is searching for small dust samples on a far and acid alien planet :)

I do not know any English translations of this book, but in Russian it is very good! It is the one of my favourite books in whole world. The dilogy "Andromede Nebula" + "Hour of the Taurus" are masterpieces of Russian philosophic Sci-Fi.

I checked the author on Amazon.com. There were some titles but not the ones you've mentioned.
It makes me very curious!!
I will continue searching :)
